How to Have a Better Lawn and Garden

If your home are surrounded with a good topsoil base, then you are lucky that you will have a good lawn as this has helped you in keeping you lawn beautiful. Unfortunately, many of us do not have such privileges and if we have , we still have to work hard to keep our lawn and garden beautiful.

Here are some tips on how to make your lawn and garden beautiful.

When it is cool and dry, start to mow the lawn. The best period is after the morning dew dry off and before the afternoon heat takes on. Otherwise, later afternoon or early evening would be good too but that if there is watering in the morning.

Rather than a fence , use a hedge for better boundary divider.  It can provide better privacy , keep pets and children from in and out of the home, attract birds to its shelter and accommodate good backdrop for plants and flowers.

Make the beauty of your garden alive. Plant hyacinths near the walkways and doors.  This will bring a magnificient perfume which will swamp the spring air and you will feel the beauty of the garden deep in your heart.

Decorate your garden with non-garden item such as mail boxes and lamp-posts. Surrounding it, plant as many flowers of various type from the earliest to the latest flowerings.  Decorate with white snowdrops, purple and gold corcus, blue hyacinths and various colored tulips. Add some rocks on the ground to make it more interesting.

How to control the weed? Simple. Always mow your lawn during spring. This will deter dandelions spreading by eliminating the yellow blossoms and preventing seed formation. It is best to mown your lawn during late spring and early summer.  At this condition, grass blades can easily shade the ground and thus prevent crabgrass from sprouting.

Part of the source of pride and beauty is your lawn and garden apart from your beautiful house. It is not necessary to spend money on expensive fertilizers and herbicides or fancy lawn accessories.  A simple and little common sense may make your lawn and garden look much better.

What if you could create an oasis of calm in your own backyard? Mother Nature has blessed us with trees, grass, flowers and many interesting and exotic plants that can add beauty, tranquility and serenity to your yard.

There is something about being surrounded by nature and living plants that soothes the soul and relaxes the mind. Start small and choose a few plants that complement your yard, then start building your own private oasis to access any time you want.

Key to any garden activity is using the right tools. While having a shovel is essential, so are other tools that work best with your garden size.

For smaller gardens, short handled tools work best, for larger gardens longer handled hoes and spades work better. Make sure you keep a sharp edge on your tools for easier work.

Plant in the shade. All plants need light to survive, but not all of them need brilliant sunshine. Plants native to woodland areas are happy when they get protection from the sun's rays.

There are many plants that will thrive in a shady garden, including Hosta, Cyclamen, Foxglove, Helleborus, Japanese Anemone, and Ajuga. By planting these, you will have a year-round display of color in even the shadiest of gardens.

Think about leaving some areas of your lawn uncut. Long grass provides a great habitat for beetles, young amphibians and grasshoppers.

Grass is also an important food source for some butterflies and caterpillars. Gardens without wildlife would be very sterile environments, and most plants can't reproduce without the help of wildlife.

If you want something fun to do that will benefit you in the kitchen, try growing some herbs in your window. Some herbs may not take kindly to this, but many will! In this way you have some herbs always fresh and handy, and they add a nice touch to the house.

Get the most out of garden space by growing compatible crops. When growing a crop like tomatoes, plant lettuce and spinach in between to grow in the shade of the taller plants.

This will maximize the space used in the garden. Also, grow plants which mature at different times alongside each other like carrots and radishes. The radishes will be ready in only thirty days while it takes much longer for the carrots to mature.

That's all there is to it. Just follow the tips above and you will be able to enhance your existing garden or start a new garden from scratch. You may want to add garden accessories as well, but whatever you do -- creating your own garden space creates an instant getaway that you can indulge in any time you feel the need.

What To Do Before Travel

Vacations are the most exciting moment when you enjoy most with your family leaving behind tensions, stress and work at home. There is a great saying, ‘travel is like a giant blank canvas and the painting on canvas is only limited by one’s imagination’.

It means until and unless you will not travel, you will be unaware about the beauty of the world. But as everything in life is done in a systematic way, preparation for vacation should also be done properly so that you can enjoy your travelling with more fun.

In this article you will get some important travel tips.

When preparing for travel trip  put down out all your clothes and money. Then take half of the clothes and double  the money. It is not necessary to carry two or three bags full of clothes. Try to make sure that you will be  carrying  fewer luggage with you while travelling. It is better to do some research about the weather of the place where you are going and take your clothes accordingly.

A special advice for all mums especially those who have small babies , you must always carry all the  kid’s stuff like blanket, things for entertainment because children usually get  bored on long trips and  the most important thing is their  medication and food.

Travel does not mean that you are a free bird and you neglect your health. Don’t do that because there are more chances of getting sick while travelling. Always carry light and healthy food items for your travel and try to avoid outside food.

Book your hotel in advance so that you will not struggle in searching for hotel and look at the brochure of the hotel, about its decorum, its location, its food and  in short try to look for best hotel and when you reach your destination have lot of fun with your family.

How To Make Your Kids Enjoy Home Gardening

Almost every kids love being dirty and making home gardening as part of their activities will give them some fun. Let them pick whatever plant that they want to grow and for sure this will excite them.

Here are some tips on how you can make your kids become interested in home gardening :-

Choose the right plants

Those plants and flowers with bright colors are most likely to be choosed by them. Get more varity of plants and flowers for them to choose. Among the bright flowers are zinnias and cosmos as these will keep your kids fascinated. Always include the sunflowers . Make sure that your kids does not allergic to any of those plants.

Start seeding

Let your children do the seeding. Their tiny fingers are suitable for those seeds which are  too small in nature.

Make a  memoir for their home gardening

Kids can get bored easily but you can keep their enthusiasm until the plant grow by making a journal for their home gardening. With this journal , they will sketch what plants that they would imagine of and begin to write their gardening activities stages from when they place the seeds until when they witness the sprout pushing up.

The home gardening place must be visible to the kids

Pick a spot where the kids often play or walk by as they can easily observe how the plant grow each time they see and pass by their garden.

 Get them to dirt playing

Our kids are fond to playing dirt or mud. They can help you in making ready the soil although it is just a stomp on the clumps. Provide them with kid-sized tools so that they can joint you with fun.

Make the garden belong to your kids

Make a picture of each of the plants so that your kids can foresee what the flowers are look like. Make a placard and put your child’s name on it so that everybody can see that it’s their garden and that will make them proud of what they are doing.

Playing with water !

Playing with dirt means playing with water too for home gardening. Give them a small watering can so that they can water their garden. Show them how to let the water  go right to the roots of the plant. Don’t give hoses as it is too big for little hands to handle.

Have a sense of forgiving

We, adults are sometimes impatient and make mistake too. Let the kids have full control of the garden. They mess it up, let it be. It’s their own garden and let them get the pleasure from it. The only thing that you can involve is by telling them to clean up the mess.

Kitchen Gadget - I Can't Live Without It

If you are just starting to cook, or are moving in on your own, chances are, you don't have much in terms of cooking equipment. Here is what we recommend for you to get, as you are starting out. As times goes by, you will, of course, get more kitchen gadgets.

But here are five that we recommend starting out with:

 - Chopping board. This is something very basic, as you can't chop anything without having a chopping board. It is very versatile, as you can chop pretty much anything on it - onions, potatoes, tomatoes, meat, herbs, etc.

Some people prefer to get separate chopping boards to meat, dairy items, vegetables, etc. Others get differently sized chopping boards, and use them depending on the volume of things they need to chop. Start out with one, and see what else you need.

- A knife. Again, this is very basic, but you will not be able to chop or cook anything without a knife. A good, sharp knife goes a long way to help you prepare food. You can go to some stores, and hold the knives in your hand, so that you know which one you are comfortable with.

- A big pot. You need a pot for pretty much anything - from boiling pastas to making soups to stewing to pretty much anything else. Some pots come with colander inserts, which makes it easier to cook pasta. Or, you may get a colander separately, and use that.

- A saute pan. We love saute pans, and use them all the time. Again, they are very versatile, and we recommend getting ones without wooden handles, so that you can put the saute in the oven as well.

Use the saute pan for preparing stir fries, sauteing meat and fish, cooking vegetables and much, much more.

- Roasting Pan. These are perfect for preparing things in the oven. From roast to roasted chicken to roasted vegetables, a roasted pan can help you cook your favorite dishes in the oven.

Don't be scared - cooking is fun. Start getting a few things that we recommended, and add to your collection of kitchen equipment as time goes.
